Delightful Surprises

New Year’s Eve is also a time for establishing more great traditions for your family. Our New Year’s tradition starts early in the evening with our favorite New Year’s Eve videos and games of pinochle. Then around midnight, we begin our feast of crab legs and melted butter, boiled shrimp with cocktail sauce, a crab appetizer, rye pizzas, rye dill dip, cheese ball, herring, pickled okra, miniature pickled corn cobs, hearts of palm salad, summer sausage, cheeses, and special crackers. After we eat, we toast our family with sparkling grape juice.

The next day is spent playing more games and reading aloud. In the evening we enjoy a lovely New Year’s dinner. After dinner we each take turns reviewing all the wonderful things we enjoyed as a family that year. We discuss the year’s trials and give thanks to God for all His blessings and the spiritual growth the trials brought us. Finally, after examining ourselves, we make resolutions for the New Year.
