Hold Fast! Spring is on Its Way!
Heart to Heart

Dear Families,

We just finished The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder describing a family’s fortitude through a very treacherous, long, hard winter which nearly cost them their lives. If it wasn’t for their faith, courage, perseverance, and determination to survive, they would have died. They suffered immeasurably through a very tough trial, but spring returned, warming their hearts and refreshing their souls.

Are you in the midst of a long, hard winter? Tired and discouraged, have you suffered so much that another storm seems totally unbearable? Trials can be long, hard, tedious, trying, and often seemingly unbearable, but have faith! Persevere! And with undaunted courage, determine to survive. Remember, spring always returns.

Seasons come and seasons go, but “the word of God shall stand forever” (Isaiah 40:8). And His word gives us hope that “He shall never fail us or forsake us” (Deut. 31:6). “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and rescues them” (Ps. 34:7). “Exult in our tribulation, knowing tribulation brings perseverance, perseverance, proven character, proven character, hope …” (Romans 5:3). “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life” (James 1:12).

Life is not about luxury and ease; it’s about standing firm and fighting the good fight. Life is a battle between good and evil, and we have been called to the front lines. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Eph. 6:12).

To endure the end, we must learn to stand firm upon the Rock and persevere, weathering the storms until God calls us home. “If we endure, we shall also reign” (2 Timothy 2:12).

To be able to reign we must be trained, and since character is forged through hardships, our tribulations are but preparation for the eternal work set before us. So let us encourage one another to persevere through winter’s storms, to glean the lessons God has for us, and to maintain the hope that is in us and the hope that God always sends spring to refresh our weary souls. “For momentary light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Cor. 4:17-18).      Hold fast! Spring is on its way! “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).      More than ever, our families are struggling through very severe trials, so please be faithful to lift up our body in prayer and reach out to encourage and gird up those in need.

Our love & prayers,

Jon and Candy

P.S. Take a look at our back cover. The Elsie Dinsmore series now has a beautiful Elsie doll to accompany these wonderful books. The Elsie doll’s outward beauty truly depicts Elsie’s lovely character, making her a great role model for our daughters. Bill and Lee Bereza (homeschoolers and former missionaries) believe that today’s play will mold tomorrow’s character. They formed Breezy Point Treasures, Inc. to provide fine quality dolls and accessories for your child’s edification and play. It is with great pleasure that I present this Christian company and their quality products.
