McArthur’s Bakery—the King of bakeries—is the place to go for delectable treats! When I first stepped into their location in South County at 3055 Lemay Ferry Road, I was mesmerized by all the gorgeous cakes that lined their vast glass enclosure. Truly, the children and I just kept gazing up and down, trying to take in the works of art that lined the shelves. How long we stared I know not, but when they called out our number, I knew that we were not nearly ready to make a selection, for there were far too many delectable treats to choose from, and I knew not where to begin.

Since that first encounter, many of you have enjoyed their beautiful and delicious European pastries at our Heart to Heart Tea and know firsthand the superb quality of this bakery’s creations, but more than that, you have come to appreciate Randy McArthur’s superb talents as both a chef and artist. But those desserts are just a sampling of the marvelous works of art the bakery carries. The Lemay Ferry bakery presents a vast assortment of gorgeous and delicious cakes that make great holiday, birthday, and thank you gifts for family and friends.

The location in Kirkwood carries a much smaller selection of these pieces of art, but in addition to the fabulous pastries, they carry old-fashioned German coffeecakes such as gooey butter cake, deep-dish butter cake, and nut stolen. When I was a child, there were many German bakeries that my family frequented. Today I know of only one besides the wares that MacArthur’s carries. So it is a sentimental journey when I shop in Kirkwood, but for cakes, I make my pilgrimage to Lemay Ferry.

My parents taught me that you get what you pay for and that it is far better to pay a little more for quality than to waste money on inferior products. So do not compare the prices of your local grocery store’s cakes and pastries with that of McArthur’s because there is no similarity any more than there is in comparing a hamburger with a great steak! When you purchase a McArthur’s cake, you are purchasing a product you won’t find anywhere else.
